Jamie Dornan's Candid Admission About His Role in Fifty Shades of Grey Films

Irish actor Jamie Dornan, 41, recently confessed that he anticipated a critical backlash when he accepted the role of Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey films, even though he was aware of their commercial potential.

Jamie, who became a household name after starring in the 2015 film, revealed that he didn't immediately say yes to the role when it was offered to him just five weeks before filming. He sought advice from friends, family, and fellow actors due to the "baggage" associated with the franchise.

The actor acknowledged that he wasn't the first choice for the role, as Charlie Hunnam was initially cast opposite Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. When Charlie withdrew due to scheduling conflicts, Jamie stepped in, but the short notice left him with mixed feelings.

He explained, "When I didn't get it, I felt a bit of relief because I knew that guy is going to get wrecked here." Jamie recognized that the films would be financially successful and polarizing, just like the books they were based on.

Despite the initial skepticism from critics, Jamie is grateful that he and Dakota were able to make work appreciated by fans, leading to a change in some critics' perspectives over time.

Dakota Johnson, Jamie's co-star, described the making of the trilogy as "psychotic" and noted the challenges of adapting the books for the screen, particularly because author E.L. James maintained creative control.

While Dakota acknowledged the difficulties, she doesn't regret her role and emphasized her initial interest in exploring the complex character dynamics, even if the final films differed from her original expectations.
