Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan, hailing from Holywood, has opened up about his initial reluctance to take on the lead role in the film adaptation of EL James' best-selling book, Fifty Shades of Grey.

Originally, Charlie Hunnam was set to play Christian Grey, opposite Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. However, when Hunnam had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts, Dornan found himself next in line for the coveted role.

Dornan admitted that his decision to accept the role was not an immediate one. He confessed, "It wasn't an instant yes by any means. It needed to be talked through… I sought counsel from friends, family, and a lot of actors. "

He also acknowledged the polarizing nature of the Fifty Shades franchise, saying, "I knew that it came with all that baggage, that the reality was it would make a ton of money and the fans would love it, but the critics would despise it."

Despite his reservations, Dornan recognized the film's potential for success among fans and expressed gratitude for the positive response they received. He concluded, "I'm grateful that Dakota and I have managed to come out [in the years since] and make work that people still like and have had some of those same critics do a bit of a 180.
