Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson Seek Substantial Pay Increases for Fifty Shades Sequels
It's not entirely unexpected, is it?
After the tremendous success of Fifty Shades of Grey at the box office, the anticipation for a sequel was practically a foregone conclusion. However, amidst rumors of dissatisfaction among the cast and the departure of director Sam Taylor-Johnson, the return of Fifty Shades to the silver screen might face some delays.
Recent reports indicate that Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are currently in negotiations, aiming to secure significant salary boosts for their roles in the forthcoming two Fifty Shades sequels. In the initial stages, they received a relatively modest $250,000 each for their work on Fifty Shades of Grey, supplemented by bonuses tied to the film's box office performance, which likely did not push their total earnings beyond $1,000,000.
Nevertheless, both Dornan and Johnson are now immersed in intense discussions aimed at securing more substantial compensation for their participation in the sequels, a common approach in franchise agreements. To provide some perspective, Jennifer Lawrence initially earned $500,000 for the first Hunger Games film and subsequently negotiated an impressive $10,000,000 for her role in the most recent installment.
Fifty Shades was intended to serve as a career breakthrough for both actors, propelling them into stardom. However, it seems highly unlikely that either of them would contemplate reprising their roles in the franchise without a substantial increase in their compensation.
Ultimately, they are the ones who must grapple with the knowledge that they are the public faces of these films
